5. Deal with a flagged reading

Show me in Utilops

When you need this: Utilops flags a reading that looks odd. Much higher than usual. Lower than last month. Zero on a house where people live. You decide: is the number fine, or does someone need to go look? Do this before you bill, so no customer gets a bill that is wrong.

Steps

  1. On the left side of the screen, click Metering, then click Exception Handling.

  2. Scroll to Exception List. Each row is one flagged reading, with the meter, the customer and why it was flagged.

  3. Click the eye button at the right end of the row, named View Details.

  4. Read the window. It shows the reading, the one before it, and how far off it is.

  5. If the number is right, click Resolve Exception. The flag clears and the reading stays.

  6. If someone should go look, click Create Work Order instead. A work order opens with the meter and the address filled in.

Made a mistake? Click Undo on the green message that appears, or open Show me how at the top and pick Undo a mistake.

You are done when

The row drops out of the list, or its status reads Resolved. The work order, if you made one, is under Work Orders, then Active Orders.

If something looks different

The number itself is wrong. This page cannot change a number. It only clears the flag. Open the meter from Meters, lesson 1, and use the trash button on the wrong row under Reading History. Then type the right reading through Import Readings.

The flag is noise. Click Dismiss. Nothing changes on the meter.

Nothing is flagged but you know something is off. Click Run Detection at the top. Utilops checks every recent reading again.

You want to be told about a new kind of problem. Click New Rule. Pick the problem in plain words, like Worried about a leak or Readings that go backwards, click Continue, give it a name and click Create Alert.

Written in plain words so anyone can follow it. If a step does not match your screen, tell us.
