GIS Mapping

This covers everything under GIS Mapping on the left side of Utilops. The map of your town with your customers and your equipment on it. Placing addresses on that map. Drawing the areas you serve. Planning a meter reading route.

Take the lessons in order the first time. After that, come back to any one when you need a refresher. Inside Utilops, the Show me how button at the top of every page replays the walkthrough for that page.

Start with the quick start page

Then the lessons

  1. Show your equipment on the map
  2. Place your customers on the map
  3. Fix an address that would not place
  4. Draw a service area
  5. Draw a zone
  6. Plan a meter reading route
  7. Undo a mistake

Then check what you learned. Seven questions, about five minutes.

Each page has a blue Show me button. It opens your Utilops and points at each thing to click. You do the step for real, then press Next. One button walks one path.

If something looks different

Clicking GIS Mapping opens the map itself. There is no home page under it. The map, the search box and the pins are all on that first page.

The map search finds addresses only. A valve number or a pump name finds nothing there. Look those up under Asset Management, then Inventory. A meter number lives under Metering.

Some pages need the right role. Address Validation, Service Areas and Geographic Zones change records, so only staff who may manage maps see them. GIS Analytics and Predictive Modeling are reports; nothing on them is required for daily work.

Sending a message to one part of town is not here. That is under Customer Messaging, then Send Message, where you draw on a map and only the people inside get the text.

Written in plain words so anyone can follow it. If a step does not match your screen, tell us.
